About Us (Me)
You guessed it. 3600 Degrees consists of one guy (Nathan Sandland) working out of his home,
with a little help now and then from his wife and kids. Maybe some day we'll get
bigger than that, but at the moment it's perfect just the way it is.
What sets me apart from the competition? Well, for starters I'm addicted to software
development. When I was 9 years old, my dad bought an Apple II+, and ever since then
I've been programming. For me, it's a passion more than it's a job.
I know Java inside and
out. I've been programming in Java since 1997, with the Java 1.0 spec. Unlike some,
I haven't found a "niche" such as J2EE, JSP, Swing, etc that I've stuck to. I like
exploring and learning new stuff, and have a broad set of knowledge as a result.
I have a good history of working for various companies (Motorola, Boeing, iMall,
Excite@Home,
Novell, Wellington Mgmt Co) that represent often wildly different industry sectors
(Cell Phones, Military Aircraft, eCommerce, IP Networking, Finance). In each of these
experiences I have proven myself as a key resource (a.k.a. "All Star"), and my references will back that
statement up.
What's in the name? Any time I tell people what my business is called, they
get a queer look on their face and I know what question they'll ask next. So, just
to avoid a hundred e-mails, let me tell you what's in the name, "3600 Degrees". My last
name is "Sandland", which is a fairly unusual name. I figured that
the business name should have something to do with my own name, since it's a one man
shop (at least for now). According to a web page I found, if you heat sand up to
3600°F, it will turn to glass.
So, I reasoned, I'm the sand, the company is the heat, the output will
be crystal.
